Taken!
LA's music scene has always evolved and the DJ scene has always been a strong backbone as to why bands become successful in LA and other parts of the Nation. LA's DJ scene has brought us legends like Richard "Humpty" Vission, Thee Mike B and Morse Code. LA has also brought us this new DJ that we had a chance to review last May. Mixologist Mikk has been in the EDM, Hip Hop and Pop scene and most recently released a new single, Taken. Somar's Radar had a chance to ask him a few questions behind the track and what inspired this great single. We hope this introduces him to the Somar Community and each of you go out and support his music, locally and abroad. Here is our interview with Mixologist Mikk:
Somars Radar: What are your musical inspirations?
Mixologist Mikk: Real-life, personal experiences that can be recreated in the form of music - music that others can relate to
Somar's Radar: When did you discover that music was your career path?
Mixologist Mikk: My original plan was to pursue the life and grind of a basketball player. Burnout and physical limitations – athleticism and size-wise – led me to re-strategize on my career path during college. I could not let go, though, of my vision to continue being on stage performing in front of people, and I couldn’t just let my innate creativity be used for a hobby. So, I decided to get serious and hone my craft as a music producer and performer.
Somar's Radar: How do you describe your music?
Mixologist Mikk: Fusion. I fuse to confuse, lol. Kidding aside, I really take my “Mixologist” moniker to heart by “mixing” different genres into a cohesive result. When I produce, my styles are mainly either “Urban-Pop” or “Electronic-Pop” fusions. When I DJ, my foundation is House, fused with Pop, Rap, and Electronic Music. My overall sound has evolved to become more “mainstream” than “underground”.
Somar's Radar: If your music was locked in a time capsule and opened 100 years from now, what would you want music fans to say about your music?
Mixologist Mikk: “Someone bring this artist back to life!”
Somar's Radar: Any final words to music lovers?
Mixologist Mikk: Don’t get affected too much by “TAKEN”, music will always be “available”!
